So I was browsing Twitter on Wednesday and saw a promoted tweet for the Selfridges Christmas Beauty event. When I clicked on the link I knew this was an event I had to attend, but unfortunately at the time I couldn’t due to other commitments. As luck would have it on Thursday my plans changed and after a few hours of attempting to sort out lifts and times with my friends I was able to go!
The event which was held at Selfridges in both Manchester and Birmingham, cost £10 to attend which was then redeemable against any purchase on the night. Aswell as this you also got 10% off every purchase, so suffice to say the event was very busy! As luck would have it my MAC Studio Fix foundation ran out that very morning so I was in the market for a new foundation. I also wanted to purchase a new blusher as I mine seemed a bit dull and I wanted something with a bit more of a ‘glow’.
I’ve heard a lot about Estée Lauder Double Wear foundation and a few of my friends swear by it so I thought I’d check it out. Firstly I sat down with a makeup artist so she could match my skin to the correct foundation shade. The shade she picked for me was Desert Beige which suited my skin really well. The lady very kindly offered to apply the foundation all over as opposed to a small bit, so that I could see the overall look. At first I was a little concerned that the shade made me look a little too pale, but after applying some bronzer it looked a lot better so I decided to purchase it. Now I’ve heard from a few people that the Double Wear foundation can cause you to break out in spots, which is something I was obviously concerned about. I asked the makeup artist about this and she said that as the foundation is made to stay on for up to 15 hours a regular face wipe will not remove it all and this is when spots can develop. She recommended the Estée Lauder Take it Away total makeup remover, as this is one of the only products on the market that fully removes Double Wear foundation. I decided not to purchase this yet as I want to see how I get on with my normal cleanser.
My next mission was to find myself a good blusher. I usually use my MAC bronzer for blusher but decided I wanted to try something new and more on the pink side. After browsing through the blushers at MAC I decided to take a look at the other brands on offer. I had a look at several beauty counters but the one that really stood out for me was the NARS ‘orgasm’ blusher. I went and spoke to the assistant who told me that NARS sells one of these blushers every 30 seconds around the world. Millions of people around the globe can’t be wrong so after giving it a try I decided to get one!
I didn’t buy anything after that as I didn’t really need anything else and didn’t want to just buy for the sake of it! My friends bagged loads of bargains too, with one of them spending a total of £138 on makeup! She’s massively into her makeup though so this event was absolute heaven for her!
Towards the end of the night my friend Natalie decided to buy some Double Wear foundation so I went with her so she could try it out. Whilst she was paying for the foundation I just happened to casually mention that I could have done with buying a concealer that night but that I would have to get it another time. Upon hearing this the assistant went over to a cupboard and produced two Estée Lauder concealer and lipgloss combo samples and gave them to us! I thought this was really nice as she easily could have just tried to sell me a concealer, she also mentioned that the samples were virtually full size which was even better!
After sampling a lot of makeup and sipping plenty of champagne and cocktails we decided to call it a night before they kicked us out! If you have the opportunity to attend one of these Selfridges Beauty events I thoroughly recommend going, as well as the 10% off products many brands were offering goodie bags with purchases of two or more items. I know I’ll definitely be attending the next event!
