Paul McCartney – Back In The UK

After three years of absence (and me writing countless tweets about it), Paul McCartney has finally brought his ‘Out There’ tour over to the UK and somehow I managed to see him not once, but twice in the past week!

Last Saturday myself and my parents went down to London to see Paul’s first UK show since 2012 at the O2 arena, which was an amazing night, combined with some nice sight seeing during the day. And then last Tuesday I got a message from a Uni friend saying that she had two free tickets to Paul’s Birmingham gig on Wednesday and would my Dad and I like them! I had to read the message about three times as I actually couldn’t believe that we were being given two FREE tickets to see Paul McCartney! I rang my Dad as soon as I go tout of work and asked him what he was doing tomorrow night, his said “well we’re going out to dinner to celebrate your new job aren’t we”, to which I replied “We’re not, we’re going to watch Paul McCartney instead!” To say my Dad was elated is a bit of an understatement and he said he wouldn’t quite believe it was true until he had the tickets in his hand.    Paul McCartney Out There 27th May Birmingham Barclaycard ArenaFor both gigs we had really great seats, London centre row just off the floor level and at Birmingham end row floor seats so we could scootch out into the aisle a little bit and have a clear as day view of the stage. The set list stayed the same for pretty much both concerts and included the hits that you expect to hear such as ‘Let It Be’, ‘BlackBird’ and ‘Yesterday’, as well as songs from The Beatles, Wings and Paul’s solo material. Interestingly Paul left ‘Yesterday’ until his very last encore which I’ve never seen him do before. His staging was also more elaborate than previous shows aswell, for example during BlackBird he was on a slowly raising platform which was a nice moment in the set. Two songs I’d been looking forward to was hearing live were ‘New’ and ‘Queenie Eye’ from his latest album also called ‘New’ and they didn’t disappoint.

You can find the rest of the set list here.

On both occasions Paul performed 40 songs over 3 hours  which is quite unbelievable , I mean come on the man is 72 years of age!

At the London show Paul also got a couple of people to join him on stage. Firstly an American man who wanted Paul to sign his wife so she could have it made into a tattoo (very jealous) and then Dave Grohl joined him on stage to perform ‘I Saw Her Standing There’ which was a great surprise. Even though Dave Grohl is a legend in his own right you could see him looking at Paul like ‘Oh my god this is Paul McCartney!’

I really don’t know if I’ll get to see him live again as it’s took me 3 years this time, but at 8 Paul McCartney concerts at 23 years of age isn’t bad going and I’ll always have memories of seeing one of the greatest songwriters this countries ever produced and sharing those moments with my parents.

Did any of you guys get the chance to see Paul’s Out There tour, what did you think? 🙂

Cosy Club Birmingham Opening Party

Cosy Club Birmingham

So last Thursday I had the pleasure of going to the opening party of the newest bar in Birmingham, The Cosy Club. Located in the old Midlands Bank building on Bennets Hill, it a stones throw away from New St and Colmore Row making it a perfect location for after work drinks.

The building itself is very impressive with its high ceilings and art deco interior, which combined with the staffs 1920’s inspired uniforms give this bar a certain vintage retro feel to it.

As part of the opening party we were served a selection of tapas dishes. We had the mini cumberland sausages with wholegrain mustard and cider sauce, crispy potatoes with pesto mayo, mushroom rarebit and smoked paprika pulled chicken and chorizo with new potatoes accompanied with ciabatta to soak up all the tasty sauces. The food was a great combination of flavours and I would defintelty recommended if you fancied a light lunch or snacks with a few drinks. Cosy Club also offers larger meals such as pork belly, fish and chips and steak so there’s something for everyone!

Although I stuck to my usual drinks of white wine and prosecco, Cosy Club offers a range of cocktails which looked great and I’m sure I’ll be sampling a few on my next visit!

We even got a little goody bag when we left filled which included the lovely mug in the picture below 🙂
I think the Cosy Club is a welcome addition to the Birmingham bar scene and will prove popular whether its for a well earned break from shopping, a drink after work or on a busy Saturday night.

Selfridges Christmas Beauty Event

So I was browsing Twitter on Wednesday and saw a promoted tweet for the Selfridges Christmas Beauty event. When I clicked on the link I knew this was an event I had to attend, but unfortunately at the time I couldn’t due to other commitments. As luck would have it on Thursday my plans changed and after a few hours of attempting to sort out lifts and times with my friends I was able to go!

The event which was held at Selfridges in both Manchester and Birmingham, cost £10 to attend which was then redeemable against any purchase on the night. Aswell as this you also got 10% off every purchase, so suffice to say the event was very busy! As luck would have it my MAC Studio Fix foundation ran out that very morning so I was in the market for a new foundation. I also wanted to purchase a new blusher as I mine seemed a bit dull and I wanted something with a bit more of a ‘glow’.

I’ve heard a lot about Estée Lauder Double Wear foundation and a few of my friends swear by it so I thought I’d check it out. Firstly I sat down with a makeup artist so she could match my skin to the correct foundation shade.  The shade she picked for me was Desert Beige which suited my skin really well. The lady very kindly offered to apply the foundation all over as opposed to a small bit, so that I could see the overall look. At first I was a little concerned that the shade made me look a little too pale, but after applying some bronzer it looked a lot better so I decided to purchase it. Now I’ve heard from a few people that the Double Wear foundation can cause you to break out in spots, which is something I was obviously concerned about. I asked the makeup artist about this and she said that as the foundation is made to stay on for up to 15 hours  a regular face wipe will not remove it all and this is when spots can develop. She recommended the Estée Lauder Take it Away total makeup remover, as this is one of the only products on the market that fully removes Double Wear foundation.  I decided not to purchase this yet as I want to see how I get on with my normal cleanser.

My next mission was to find myself a good blusher. I usually use my MAC bronzer for blusher but decided I wanted to try something new and more on the pink side. After browsing through the blushers at MAC I decided to take a look at the other brands on offer. I had a look at several beauty counters but the one that really stood out for me was the NARS ‘orgasm’ blusher. I went and spoke to the assistant who told me that NARS sells one of these blushers every 30 seconds around the world. Millions of people around the globe can’t be wrong so after giving it a try I decided to get one!

I didn’t buy anything after that as I didn’t really need anything else and didn’t want to just buy for the sake of it! My friends bagged loads of bargains too, with one of them spending a total of £138 on makeup! She’s massively into her makeup though so this event was absolute heaven for her!

Towards the end of the night my friend Natalie decided to buy some Double Wear foundation so I went with her so she could try it out. Whilst she was paying for the foundation I just happened to casually mention that I could have done with buying a concealer that night but that I would have to get it another time. Upon hearing this the assistant went over to a cupboard and produced two Estée Lauder concealer and lipgloss combo samples and gave them to us! I thought this was really nice as she easily could have just tried to sell me a concealer, she also mentioned that the samples were virtually full size which was even better!

After sampling a lot of makeup and sipping plenty of champagne and cocktails we decided to call it a night before they kicked us out! If you have the opportunity to attend one of these Selfridges Beauty events I thoroughly recommend going, as well as the 10% off products many brands were offering goodie bags with purchases of two or more items. I know I’ll definitely be attending the next event!
